Wind and rain were the main theme of the day as the 4th Occupli Golf Society outing took place in the picturesque Fota Island Golf Resort. Again, this outing was made up of a variety of golfers ranging from beginners to regulars. A special thanks goes to Jim O’Neill of Carbery and Mary O’Connor of BioMarin, both clients of Occupli, for taking the time out of their weekend to support the Occupli Golf Society.
13 golfers braved the elements for this outing with the overall winners being, Greg ‘The Fish’ Quinn, Michael ‘The Duck’ O’Donnell and Eamon Doyle with 40 points. Only two golfers (Greg & Mike) finished the round of golf on Saturday, congrats to them for their persistence in appalling weather conditions.
The format of the day was a better ball scramble with groups consisting of 3 and 4 players. This format was chosen due to the weather conditions and to speed up the pace of play with players rushing home to watch Ireland beat the Springboks. The staff at Fota GC appeared to go above and beyond with their service all day with them even placing out the necessary apparatus for us to contest a nearest to the pin competition on the beautiful 16th hole which was playing extremely long into the wind.
A special thanks to Martin Clancy, MD Occupli for sponsoring the prizes for the day. The next planned Occupli Golf Society outing is provisionally fixed for Beaufort Golf Club, Co. Kerry. There is no date set for this outing as of yet, but it will likely take place towards the end of October. Limited numbers are available for this outing so anyone interested please contact myself or Gary Horgan. This outing and all subsequent outings are opened to all, Occupli staff, Contractors, family and friends.
