BER Assessor Training Course: 5 Key Topics Covered

Course Overview
- Accreditation & Award: QQI Level 6 Minor Award – Building Energy Rating Assessment (Dwellings), Award Code 6N0732.
- Purpose: Equip learners with the knowledge, skills and competence to carry out BER assessments on dwellings in compliance with SEAI standards and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
- Duration & Format: Typically 5 days plus 1/2 day exam (online or classroom options)
- Assessment:
- 4 Case Study Assignments (50%)
- 10 Short Answer Questions (10%)
- Practical BER Assessment (40%)
- Certification: QQI Level 6 Component Certificate; CPD recognition (e.g. Engineers Ireland – 40 CPD hours).

Pre-Course Requirements
For Training:
- Minimum NFQ Level 5 qualification (e.g., Leaving Certificate or equivalent).
- Good computer literacy (especially in MS Excel and basic geometry/trigonometry).
- PPS Number for registration.
For SEAI Registration (after training):
- NFQ Level 6 Advanced/Higher Certificate (120 ECTS credits) in a construction-related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Insurance and tax compliance.
- Ability to demonstrate fundamental construction skills (surveying, interpreting drawings, understanding building regulations).
Technical Skills:
- Ability to undertake measured surveys, record building characteristics, and perform non-complex calculations.
