All applicants must confirm that they meet one of the approved qualification routes before enrolling on the course.
Construction qualification route
- NFQ Level 6 Advanced/Higher Certificate or international equivalent
- Qualification must be in a relevant construction-related discipline, where the BER fundamental skillsets were covered
Construction experiential route
OR
- 2 years full time and professional relevant experience during the last 10 years in a relevant construction-related environment, where the BER fundamental skillsets were covered
AND
- an accumulation of SEAI approved or accredited awards in a relevant construction-related discipline, where the listed fundamental skillsets were covered

Mandatory Administrative Requirement
A valid PPS Number is required for QQI certification.
Participants should be comfortable with:
- Basic computer literacy
- Interpreting building drawings
- Basic calculations and geometry
- Training & Registration Process
Becoming a registered Domestic BER Assessor involves the following steps:
- Pre-Qualification Check: Confirm your eligibility with SEAI under one of the approved routes.
- Complete Approved Training: Attend and complete the 6 day QQI Building Energy Rating Assessment (Dwellings) course (6N0732).
- Pass the Assessment: Achieve a minimum 70% in the final assessment to successfully complete the course.
- Register with SEAI: Apply directly to SEAI to become a licensed Domestic BER Assessor.
