Heartcode BLS Certification Course (Blended Learning)

Part 1: Online theory (self-paced, approx. 2.5 hours)
Part 2: In-person classroom skills training and assessment (approx. 2 hours for groups, or 1 hr 15 mins in small rotational groups)

Course Overview

This Basic Life Support (BLS) course is designed for healthcare professionals who may need to respond to emergencies, especially cardiac arrest situations. It follows a team-based approach and includes:

• Adult, child, and infant CPR
• Use of AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
• Relief of choking (FBAO - Foreign Body Airway Obstruction)

Who Should Attend

Ideal for:

• Medical, nursing, and paramedical staff
• Healthcare workers in both hospital and community settings

Recommended for those needing recertification or taking it as a first-time course under COVID-19 blended learning measures.
Also suitable as a prerequisite for AHA/IHF ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification.

Course Topics

• Chest compressions and rescue breaths (with/without pocket mask)
• 2-Person Bag Valve Mask (BVM) use
• AED operation
• CPR and choking management for adults, children, and infants

Course Assessment

• Part 1: Complete an online multiple-choice quiz and receive a certificate
• Part 2: In-class skills assessments on:
• Adult BLS with AED
• Infant BLS (1 and 2 rescuer scenarios)

Training Equipment

• 1 Adult manikin, 1 Infant manikin, 1 AED trainer, 1 Adult BVM, and 1 Infant BVM per 3 participants (AHA/IHF standard)
• Elite Ambulance targets a 1:1 manikin-to-student ratio for 1-person skills practice
• All manikins include feedback devices per 2019 AHA guidelines
• Provided: Hand gel, wipes, nitrile gloves (per Manikin Hygiene Policy)

• Online access to BLS Student Manual (24 months)
• Individual pocket mask
• RED card (Request Emergency Dispatch)
• Eircode fridge magnet

Course Instructors

Delivered by a certified AHA/IHF BLS instructor who is also an active healthcare practitioner.

BLS Certification

Successful participants receive an AHA/IHF BLS certificate (valid for 2 years) upon completion of both the online theory and in-person skills components.
