Occupli host a coffee morning to raise funds on Restart a Heart Day
Our Occupli team held a coffee morning earlier today in efforts to raise money towards an AED machine for an area that needs it.
What is a Cardiac Arrest?
A cardiac arrest is a sudden loss of heart function which causes a person to collapse. When this happens the person will be unresponsive and will not be breathing in a normal way (either gasping or not breathing at all). This is due to something going wrong with the heart’s electrical system, and without immediate CPR and defibrillation the person will not survive. 70% of cardiac arrests in Ireland happen in the person’s home.
An Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable, easy-to-use device. It works by delivering a shock to the heart during sudden cardiac arrest to allow it to resume its normal rhythm.
In the event of a cardiac arrest, remember: Check-Call-Compress-Shock to save a life.
Check: is the person responding or breathing normally?
Call: emergency services on 999 and listen carefully to the instructions the ambulance call taker provides
Compress: start pressing on the center of the patient’s chest at a speed of 100-120 compressions per minute and at a depth of two inches or 5cms
Shock: If someone is with you send them to get the nearest AED and get it on to the chest as quickly as possible.
