QQI Hand Held Pesticide Application is a two and a half day course and is aimed at people working with pesticides on golf courses, landscapers, farmers and vegetable growers.

Course Objective

This course enables participants to learn and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to apply crop pesticides using a hand held sprayer in accordance with legislation and recommended safety practices.

Who Is This Course Intended For?

Anyone who needs to apply pesticides in a public place and requires a recognised appropriate qualification.

Course Programme

• Effects of pests on crops, non-crop areas and amenity areas
• Range of Pest Control Measures available to Farmers, Growers and Pest Control Personnel
• Terminology used to categorise pesticides for crop/amenity areas, the factors affecting pesticide efficiency and the factors to be considered when selecting a formulation
• Safe handling and disposal of pesticides including appropriate personal protective equipment
• Pesticide Residues and Regulations relating to Poisonous Substances
• Principles of application technology
• Interpretation of pesticide label information
• Preparation of a hand held sprayer for work, including calibration, in accordance with safe recommended good practice and manufacturer’s recommendations
• Making up a pesticide spray mix
• Application of pesticide with a boom sprayer
• Preparation of hand held sprayer and personal protective equipment for storage
