DSE Assessment | Ergonomics Assessment
Display Screen Equipment (DSE Assessment) and Video Display Units (VDU Assessment) are essential in modern workplaces, but poor workstation setup can cause back pain, neck strain and repetitive strain injuries (RSIs). If your team spends time working with display screens, proper workstation setup isn’t optional, it’s essential.
At Occupli, with offices in Little Island, Cork, and Ballymount Dublin, we help organisations across Ireland ensure their DSE workstations deliver comfort, safety and legal compliance.
Our expert consultants carry out each DSE Assessment with a full review of posture, workstation layout, seating, and desk setup, ensuring every employee works safely and efficiently. Each Ergonomics Assessment reduces health risks while improving comfort, productivity, and overall performance.
Occupli provides DSE and Ergonomics Assessments in Cork, Dublin, and nationwide, identifying hazards and implementing practical, cost-effective solutions for businesses of all sizes. Larger clients benefit from our managed assessment programme and software platform, covering training, corrective actions, and follow-up reviews.

Standard DSE Assessment
Our qualified ergonomic consultants deliver on-site VDU/DSE assessments to evaluate each workstation for comfort, safety and compliance.
Each assessment includes:
- Workstation Design: monitor, keyboard and mouse setup
- Workplace Layout: desk positioning and workflow efficiency
- Lighting Levels: ensuring appropriate screen visibility
- Work Routine: rest breaks and task rotation
- Posture Guidance: correct sitting, standing and movement techniques
Following the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed report with actionable recommendations to meet VDU/DSE regulations. We also provide on-the-spot guidance to help your team adopt safe and sustainable ergonomic practices.
Advanced DSE Assessment
A one-to-one, in-depth office ergonomic assessment where a standard DSE may not suffice. Ideal where there are persistent issues (e.g., scoliosis, back/neck pain, carpel tunnel syndrome etc), individual is on return-to-work after injury or a clinician has recommended specialist input.
- A qualified ergonomist reviews your role, symptoms, work habits and any medical restrictions in plain language. The assessment is tailored to the specific tasks and the potential limitations of the individual.
- Precise measurements of the workstation setup (chair, desk, screen, keyboard, mouse) to match body size, posture, reach and viewing distance.
- Where possible, on-the-spot adjustments and trials (e.g., chair settings, monitor height, footrest, input devices) to reduce strain immediately.
- Clear, practical recommendations with equipment specifications, task cues and break strategies you can actually follow.
An Impartial report with prioritised actions and justifications will then be provided tailored to your individual requirements.

Your Legal Requirements: VDU Assessments / Ergonomics Assessment
Under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and the General Application Regulations 2007, Chapter 5 of Part 2: Display Screen Equipment, all employers must ensure employees using computers for over one hour daily receive a VDU or DSE assessment.
Employers must also provide:
- A risk assessment of each workstation
- Regular eye tests for employees working with display screens
- Training on safe workstation use
- Periodic rest breaks and rotation of tasks
Legal compliance ensures the wellbeing of employees and reduces the risk of physical or visual strain – key outcomes of effective ergonomics assessments.
