Course Objectives

The Aim of this programme is to equip candidates with the knowledge to fully understand the legal responsibilities of the PSCS role and guidance on how they might fulfil this role in line with legislation and best practice.

Course Contents

On completion of the course participants will be able to:

  • Appreciate who the key duty holders are as defined within the legislation and how they fulfil their roles.
  • Understand the role and legal responsibilities of the PSCS.
  • Understand the requirements for preparing and contributing to the Safety File.
  • Recognise the need for measuring performance and understand the principles for active and reactive monitoring.
  • Apply risk controls, reduction and the principles of prevention.
  • Be able to complete a risk assessment and make recommendations for risk controls and safe systems of work.
  • Identify and mitigate construction specific hazards.
  • Understand the need for and contents of a construction safety plan.

Assessment
Participants complete a written exam.
